Mean
The average of a set of data, calculated by adding all values and dividing by the number of values.
Independent Variable
The variable that is changed or controlled in a scientific experiment.
Dependent Variable
The variable that is measured or affected in an experiment.
Control Variables
Variables that are kept constant to ensure a fair test.
Saturated Solution
A solution in which no more solute can dissolve at a given temperature.
Filtration
A separation technique used to remove solid particles from a liquid or gas.
Distillation
A process to separate mixtures of miscible liquids based on differences in boiling points.
Chromatography
A technique used to separate and analyze mixtures based on their movement through a medium.
Rf Value
The ratio of the distance traveled by the substance to the distance traveled by the solvent front in chromatography.
Periodic Table
A tabular arrangement of elements based on their atomic number, electron configuration, and recurring chemical properties.
Metals
Elements that are usually good conductors of heat and electricity, malleable and ductile.
Non-Metals
Elements that are generally poor conductors of heat and electricity, and typically have more varied physical properties.
Reactivity Series
A list of metals arranged in order of decreasing reactivity.
Group 0 Elements
Noble gases that are colorless, odorless, and inert.
Displacement Reaction
A type of chemical reaction where one element displaces another in a compound.
Particle Model
A model that describes the arrangement and movement of particles in mixtures and solutions.
Dissolving
The process of a solute mixing with a solvent to form a solution.
Melting
The process of a solid turning into a liquid, typically due to heat.
Solute
The substance that is dissolved in a solution.
Solvent
The substance in which the solute is dissolved to form a solution.
Concentration
The amount of solute dissolved in a given volume of solvent, often expressed in molarity or percentage.
pH Scale
A scale used to measure the acidity or basicity of a solution, ranging from 0 to 14.
Catalyst
A substance that speeds up a chemical reaction without being consumed in the process.
Endothermic Reaction
A chemical reaction that absorbs heat from the surroundings.
Exothermic Reaction
A chemical reaction that releases heat to the surroundings.
Chemical Equation
A symbolic representation of a chemical reaction showing the
