What is the PNS and what is it?
PNS is the Peripheral Nervous System and it is divided into Somatic and Automatic and is in the nerves of the limbs and organs.
What is the CNS
CNS is the central nervous system and consists of your brain and spinal cord. It is the control center of the body. It processes info and sends out messages on how to respond.
What is a stimulus?
A stimulus is a change outside or inside the body that leads to a response.
What is a receptor?
A receptor is a structure that detects a change in the normal functioning of the body.
5 different types of receptors?
Chemoreceptor, painreceptor, thermoreceptor, mechanoreceptor and photoreceptor
What receptor does sound use?
Mechanoreceptor
What receptor does sight use?
Photoreceptor
What receptor does skin use?
Thermoreceptors, pain receptors and mechanoreceptors
What receptor does taste use?
Chemoreceptors
What receptor does smell use?
Chemoreceptor
What is homeostasis?
Homeostasis is the process of the body regulating its body temperature and ensuring a stable internal state
What does an axon do?
It carries nerve impulses away from the cell body to the synapse.
What does a dendrite do?
Recieves nerve impulses and sends it to the body and reaches out from the cell body.
What does the cell body do?
The main part of the cell that contains the nucleus and the organelles.
What does the nucleus do?
Controls and regulates the activities of the cell.
What does the myelin sheath do?
Controls the electrical path and insulates it from escaping.
What does the sypmatic terminal do?
A small gap between neruons that transmits information. (neurotransmitters)
Axon Terminal?
At the ends of axons which transmits messages to otehr cells via use of neurotransmitters.
What are the components of a nerve cell?
Cell body, dendrite, myelin sheath, axon terminal, axon, nucleus
What is the sensory neuron for?
Gets information of whats going on in and outside the body back to the CNS.
What is the motor neuron for?
Gets information on other neurons and convey commands to your muscles.
What is the internuerons for?
Found in the CNS and connect to one another.
What is the nervous system?
A communication system that controls all the parts of the body.
Different parts of the brain?
Cerebellum, spinal cord, temporal lobe, parietal lobe, occipital lobe, frontal lobe, brain stem.
What is the frontal lobe for?
Personality, thinking, planning and problem solving
What is the temporal lobe for?
Controls speech and hearing
What is the brain stem for?
Controls automatic things
what is the Spinal cord for?
Links the brain to the rest of the body
What is the cerebellum for?
Controls movement, balance and muscles
What is the occipital lobe for?
Controls memory and sighy
