What is Social Studies?
The study of how people over time have interacted with each other and their environment.
What are the five strands of social studies?
Culture, History, Economics, Government, and Geography.
What does Culture include?
Beliefs, customs, laws, art, and ways of living of a group of people (examples: food, dress, religion, tradition, languages, recreation, art).
What is History?
A record of the past; events that changed the way people live today; people who changed society.
What is a Primary Source?
A source that comes from the actual event or object.
What is a Secondary Source?
An interpretation or analysis of a primary source.
What is Economics?
The study of making, buying, and selling of goods and services; producers, consumers, and trade.
What is Government?
The people or group within a society that have the power to make laws, ensure they are carried out, and settle disagreements about them.
What is Geography?
The study of the Earth and its people; physical features, landforms, continents, climates, maps, borders, countries, cities, and weather over time.
What is the summary of the five strands?
They make up social studies and relate to the development of humans and land over time.
