Fossil fuels
The remains of dead plants and animals that store energy from the Sun from millions of years ago.
Examples of fossil fuels
Coal, oil and natural gas.
Original energy source of fossil fuels
The Sun, which gave its energy to plants and animals millions of years ago.
Factors forming fossil fuels
Pressure from above and heat from the Earth over millions of years turning dead plants and animals into coal, oil or natural gas.
Lignite
A stage in the geological process of coal formation shown between dead plant material and black coal.
