Matter
Anything that has mass and takes up space.
Physical Properties
Characteristics that can be observed or measured without changing the matter into something new.
Solid
A state of matter with a definite shape and a definite volume.
Liquid
A state of matter that takes the shape of its container and has a definite volume.
Gas
A state of matter with no definite shape and no definite volume.
Color
A physical property describing the color of the matter, such as a purple crayon.
Texture
How something feels to the touch, such as smooth, rough, or bumpy.
Mass
The amount of matter in an object.
Volume
The amount of space an object takes up, such as water filling a cup to 250cm3.
Magnetism
The ability of an object to be attracted to a magnet.
Density
How much mass is in a certain amount of space.
Solubility
How well a substance dissolves in a liquid.
Electrical Conductivity
How well a material allows electricity to flow.
Thermal Conductivity
A physical property that describes how heat flows through a material and can be felt as hot or cold.
Relative Density
The property of sinking or floating using water as a reference point, where objects less dense than water float and objects more dense sink.
Physical State
The form matter exists in, classified as solid, liquid, or gas.
