How does anaerobic cellular respiration work?

without oxygen the the kreb cycle and ETC cannot operate therefore the cell relies on glycolysis to maintain a supply of ATP. without the krebs cycle and ETC to remove the by-products of glycolysis, the products build up in the cytosol, meaning it is not sustainable

What is Alcoholic Fermentation?

yeast and some bacteria carry out alcoholic fermentation. they use glycolysis and then convert pyruvate and NADH molecules, producing CO2 and ethanol.

3
New cards

What is Lactic Acid Fermentation?

animal cells carry out lactic acid fermentation. following glycolysis pyruvate molecules are broken down to produce lactic acid, which is toxic to cells and therefore cannot be sustained

How does Temperature Affect rate of Cellular Respiration?

as temperature increases so does rate due to increased molecular collisions until temperature increases above optimum temperature when enzymes denature. at lower temperatures the molecules collide less, decreasing rate of cellular respiration

How does Glucose Concentration Affect rate of Cellular Respiration?

cellular respiration relies on an ongoing supply of glucose. if glucose becomes depletes, the body draws on alternative sources to meet the energy needs of its cells such as lipids or proteins

6
New cards

How does Oxygen Availability Affect rate of Cellular Respiration?

affects the type of cellular respiration that is carried out by cells.

How does Photosynthesis and Aerobic Cellular Respiration work together

they are closely related and interdependent on one another.
