Carcinogenic
Cancer causing. (Chemical)
Toxic
Means that something causes harm, but not specifically cancer. A chemical can’t be toxic, even if it doesn’t cause cancer. Lead is an example of a toxin (Specifically, a neurotoxin.. Causes harm to developing brains) But it is not carcinogenic. Arsenic, however, is known as a carcinogen
Dose
How much of a particular contaminant are you exposed to?
Duration
For how long are you exposed?
acute = < 14 days
Intermediate = anything in between (14-364 days)
Chronic = 1+ year
Half life
The amount of time it takes for half of the chemical to either be excreted or metabolized
short half-life = Body gets rid of it quickly
Long half-life = It stays in our system for a long time
Bioaccumulation
Is when the amount of a chemical increases in the living organism overtime
Biomagnification
Up the food chain
