• nepal is an area of high relief- lots of mountains- lots of water

• reabilitate 14 microhydroplants

  • provide 1500kw energy to over 7000 residents

  • reduce emissions by 45000 tonnes of co2 equivalent

  • restore power for 23 hours- businesses and people able to operate

  • affordable for community- appropiate to skills of local community

  • stable renewable energy source- attracts businesses- increases money in local economies

why is the scheme needed?

• there are no coal mines in nepal- unable to drill for fossil fuels

• nepal is landlocked- hard to import fossil fuels

how will this work?

• water from streams/rivers chanelled to a forebay tank- ensures a steady flow of water reaches the turbines which turn + generate electricity

  • no need for expensive dams/ reservoirs

  • reduces flooding risk, not an ‘eye-sore’
