definition of boiling point
the temperature at which vapour pressure of liquid becomes equal to the external pressure is called boiling point of the liquid.
elevation of boiling point
the increase in boiling point of a liquid whenever a solute is added in it, is called elevation in boiling point.
reason for increase in b.p
the addition of non volatile solute lowers the vapour pressure therefore high temperature is required to equalize the vapour pressure of liquid to atmospheric or external pressure. thats why liquid boils at high temperature whenever a non volatile solute is added.
elevation in bp is directly proportional to
molality of solution
ebullioscopic constant or molal bp constant
defined as the increase in boiling point of solvent for one molal solution
