Abram's Call and Migration
1 The LORD said to Abram: Go forth[a] from your land, your relatives, and from your father's house to a land that I will show you. 2 [b]l will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 31 will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. All the families of the earth will find blessing in you.[c] 4 Abram went as the LORD directed him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. (Gen. 12: 1-4)
12:1-3
Go forth...find blessing in you: the syntax of the Hebrew suggests that the blessings promised to Abraham are contingent on his going to Canaan.
12:2
The call of Abraham begins a new history of blessing. It is God rather than Abraham who will make a name for him; the families of the earth will find blessing in him.
CCC 145
Emphasizes Abraham's obedience and trust.
The Letter to the Hebrews, in its great eulogy of the faith of Israel's ancestors, lays special emphasis on Abraham's faith: "By faith, Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place which he was to receive as an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was to go."4 By faith, he lived as a stranger and pilgrim in the promised land. By faith, Sarah was given to conceive the son of the promise. And by faith Abraham offered his only son in sacrifice.

Mary's "Yes" to God despite not understanding everything.
CCC 148
17
The Virgin Mary most perfectly embodies the obedience of faith. By faith Mary welcomes the tidings and promise brought by the angel Gabriel, believing that "with God nothing will be impossible" and so giving her assent: "Behold I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be [done] to me according to your word."12

➤Trusted and surrendered completely.
➤Blessed because she believed God's word would be fulfilled.
Faith means humility and courageous surrender.
CCC 50
"By natural reason man can know God with certainty, on the basis of his works. But there is another order of knowledge, which man cannot possibly arrive at by his own powers: the order of divine Revelation."
