Equilibrium Constant (K_eq)
A temperature-dependent value that expresses the ratio of product to reactant concentrations at equilibrium.
Formation Constant (K_f)
A large K_f (>1) means the equilibrium strongly favors product formation over reactants.
Le Chatelier’s Principle
If a stress disturbs a system at equilibrium, the system shifts to counteract the change and re-establish balance.
Exothermic Reaction
A reaction in which heat is released; heat appears on the product side of the equation.
Catalyst and Equilibrium
Speeds up the rate at which equilibrium is reached but does not change the position of equilibrium.
Arrhenius Acid
A substance that produces H⁺ (or H₃O⁺) ions when dissolved in water.
Arrhenius Base
A substance that produces OH⁻ ions when dissolved
