Property line
One of the legally defined and recorded boundaries of a parcel of land
Setback
The minimum required distance for every structure to the property lines of a lot, established by a zoning ordinance to provide for air, light, solar access, and privacy.
Easement
A legal right held by specified persons or the public to make limited use of the land of another
Site Profile
A vertical section of the ground surface taken parallel to a survey line
Existing Grade
The elevation of the original ground surface before excavation or grading begins.
Finish Grade
The elevation of drives, walks, lawns, or other improved surfaces after completion of construction or grading operations
EarthWork
The excavation and embankment of earth in connection with an engineering operation
Excavation

from its natural position, or the cavity

Backfill
To refill an excavation with earth,
stone, or other material, esp. the space
around exterior foundation wall
Made Ground
Ground that has been raised to a
higher level by filling with hard rubble,
as stone or broken brick
Batter Board
Wooden stick nailed horizontally to the stake to serve as horizontal plane where the building technical measurements are established
Stake
Wooden stick used as post sharpened at one end and driven into the ground to serve as boundaries or support of the horizontal batter boards
Level Transit
The instrument used in relocating and establishing all reference points, lines and boundaries of the construction
Plastic Water Hose
Transparent plastic tube having a diameter of ¼” to ½” filled with water used to establish horizontal lines
String or Chord
Any medium of material such as steel, wire, cotton, plastic or nylon chord used for connecting established points or lines in the batter board
