Process of controlling and making decisions about an organization as well as overseeing others to ensure activities are performed efficiently and effectively.
Effectiveness
Occurs when intended goals or objectives are acheved.
Productivity
Measure of output accomplished by an employee in a specific amount of time.
Micromanagement
Management style that occurs when manager closely controls or monitors the work of his or her employees.
Organizing
Coordination of activities and resources needed to accomplish a plan.
Staffing
The process of recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating, compensating employees.
Leading
Process of influencing others to work toward the attainment of common goals.
Controlling
Continuous process of comparing actual outcomes with planned outcomes and taking corrective action when goals are not met and involves setting standards, measuring performances aganst the standards, and making changes needed to keep performances in line with standards.
Manager
Person who directs and oversees the work of others in order to achieve the organization’s goals.
Direct report
Employee who reports directly to one manager.
For-Profit buisness
Organization that generates revenue with the objective of earning a profit for its owners.
Not-for-profit organization
Organization that exists to serve some public purpose.
Glass ceiling
Invisible barrier that prevents a group of people from job advancement.
Divercity
Having representatives from different backgrounds, cultures, or demographics in a group.
Managerial roles
Actions and behaviors managers are expected to perform in an organization.
Conceptual skills
Involve ability to formulate new ideas and think in abstract terms and enable person to think creatively, solve problems, and understand how programs and ideas interrelate.
Interpersonal skills
Skills that enable person to work effectively with others.
Communication
Sending and receiving messages that convey information, ideas, feelings, or beliefs.
Technical skills
Specific skills managers need to perform duties related to their area of management.
Hard skills
Critical skills necesary to perform required work related tasks of a position.
Soft skills
Skills that help an individual find a job, perform in the workplace, and gain success in a job or career.
