Structuralism

the task of psychology is to analyze consciousness into it’s basic elements and investigate how these elements are related

Functionalism

Psychology should investigate the function or purpose of consciousness, rather than structure

Psychoanalysis

theory attempts to explain personality, motivation, and mental disorder through unconscious determinants of behavior

Humanism

emphasizes unique qualities of humans, especially their freedom and potential for personal growth

psychology should only study observable behavior

Organisms tend to repeat responses leading to positive outcomes and not responses leading to negative/neutral outcomes.
