Leading zero
If the dosage is a decimal number less than 1, include a leading zero to the left of the decimal point to avoid medication errors.
Trailing zero
If the dosage is a whole number and there is no digit to the right of the decimal point, do not include a trailing zero. Instead, show the dosage as a whole number.
Ratio
the quantitative relation between the numerator and the denominator, or it is a comparison of two numbers expressed as a fraction
Proportion
the comparison of two ratios. It is stating that the two ratios are equivalent.
Rounding rule
if the number after the decimal point is greater than 5, the number can be rounded by adding 1 to the number on its left. In the case of liquid medication, the dose is rounded to nearest tenth.
