Hypothesis

Testable prediction or educated guess about the relationship between two or more variables

Theory

A well supported explanation for a phenomenon based off evidence, experimentation, and observation. It integrates and organizes a set of related concepts and principles

Variable

Any factor or condition that can change or vary in a research study. Variables are typically categorized as independent or dependent

Independent variable

Variable that is controlled or manipulated in an experiment to observe its effect on the dependent variable

Dependent variable

The variable that is measured or observed in an experiment and is expected to change based off the manipulation of the independent variable

Experiment

A research method in which one or more variables are being manipulated to observe the effects on another variable, while controlling her extraneous factors

Control group

Does not receive the treatment or intervention used for comparison with the experimental group

Experimental group

Is exposed to the intervention and treatment being studied

Confounding variable

Variable other than the independent variable that can influence the dependent variable and potentially lead to inaccurate interpretations of the results
