Immobilization
The restriction of movement, often due to an injury or illness, which can lead to both physiological and psychological effects in children.
Soft Tissue Injury
Injury to muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves caused by trauma, often categorized into contusions, sprains, strains, and dislocations.
Fracture
A break in a bone, commonly categorized by their type such as complete, incomplete, closed, or open.
Compartment Syndrome
A condition resulting from increased pressure within a muscle compartment, leading to tissue death if not treated immediately.
Osteomyelitis
An infection of the bone that can arise from external sources (exogenous) or from bacteria in the blood (hematogenous).
Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease
A condition involving disturbance of blood flow to the femoral head, leading to avascular necrosis, mostly affecting boys aged 4 to 8.
Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH)
A range of disorders related to abnormal hip development which may result from genetic, environmental, or mechanical factors.
Scoliosis
A complex spinal deformity characterized by lateral curvature of the spine, often requiring screening and intervention.
Cast Types
Describes various types of casts used in treatment of fractures, such as plaster, synthetic fiberglass, short leg cast, and spica cast.
Atrophy
The decrease in muscle strength and mass due to disuse or immobility, often observed in children following immobilization.
