• flat rash

• chorea from CNS involvement

what are chorea clues

• uncontrolled extremity

• facial grimacing

• speech disturbances

• symptoms disappear during sleep

Kawasaki disease

acute systemic vasculitis disease and leading cause of heart disease in children

acute stage of Kawasaki disease

lasts 1-2 weeks

• high fever for more than 5 days

• bilateral conjuctivits

• strawberry tongue, cracked red lip, red oral mucosa

• swollen hands and feet

• non blistering rash

subacute stage of kawasaki disease

• fever resolves

• irritated/anorexic

• peeling hands and feet

• temporary arthritis and joint pain

• cv complications may develop

convalescence stage of kawasaki disease

• symptoms resolve

• lab results remain abnormal

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome

inflammatory condition of the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes that is linked to covid 19

resembles kawasaki disease

s/s of MIS-C

• fever longer than 24 hours

• abd pain/V/D

• rash

• conjunctivitis

• red swollen lips, tongue, gums, hands and feet

• enlarged lymph nodes

what are emergency warning signs of MIS-C disease:

• diff breathing

• chest pain

• new confusion

• decrease LOC

• pallor or cyanosis

• severe abdominal pain

treatment of MIS-C disease

• IV fluids

• resp support

• aspirin or heparin

• steroids

• IVIG

• antibiotics

nursing care for MIS-C

• cardiac monitoring

• monitor I’ and O’s and daily weights

• calm environment
