Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
An enduring pattern of uncooperative, defiant, disobedient, and hostile behavior towards authority figures without major antisocial violations; it is considered a milder variant of Conduct Disorder.
Intermittent Explosive Disorder (IED)
Repeated episodes of impulsive, aggressive, violent behavior, and angry verbal outbursts lasting approximately 30minutes, where the reaction is grossly out of proportion to the stressor.
Conduct Disorder
Persistent behavior that violates societal norms, rules, laws, and the rights of others, often involving aggression to people and animals, destruction of property, and deceitfulness.
Callous and unemotional trait
A characteristic of Conduct Disorder involving little empathy for others, a lack of guilt or remorse, and shallow, superficial emotions.
Childhood-onset Conduct Disorder
A subtype of Conduct Disorder occurring before 10years old, characterized by physical aggression toward others, disturbed peer relationships, and a higher likelihood of developing antisocial personality disorder as an adult.
Adolescent-onset Conduct Disorder
A subtype of Conduct Disorder where behaviors do not appear until after 10years old; individuals are less likely to be aggressive and have more normal peer relationships.
Mild Intensity Conduct Disorder
Behavior involving some conduct problems with minor harm to others, such as repeated lying, truancy, minor shoplifting, and staying out late without permission.
Moderate Intensity Conduct Disorder
An increase in conduct problems and harm to others, including vandalism, conning others, running away, verbal bullying, drinking alcohol, and sexual promiscuity.
Severe Intensity Conduct Disorder
Many conduct problems causing considerable harm, such as forced sex, cruelty to animals/people, physical fights, use of weapons, burglary, and robbery.
Externalizing Behaviors
Outwardly directed maladaptive actions such as lying, cheating, swearing, truancy, vandalism, bragging, and screaming.
Internalizing Behaviors
Inwardly directed maladaptive patterns such as withdrawing, sulking, being secretive, somatic aches, fatigue, and crying spells.
Kleptomania
Impulsive, repetitive theft of items not needed for personal use or monetary gain, preceded by high tension and followed by relief or gratification.
Pyromania
Repeated, intentional fire setting driven by a fascination with fire and a feeling of pleasure or relief of tension while setting and watching the flames.
Coping Power Program
A specific model of behavioral intervention used as a treatment for Oppositional Defiant Disorder.
Serotonin
The neurotransmitter imbalance associated as a risk factor for Intermittent Explosive Disorder.
