Gender (Feminist Perspective)
A learned performance that organises social, political and economic relations.
Glass ceiling
A metaphor referring to an artificial barrier that prevents women and minorities from being promoted to managerial- and executive-level positions within an organization.
Sex
The state of being male or female.
Gender role
Denotes the social and cultural role of each sex within a given society.
Social expectation of behavior
The way our society expects males and females to behave differently and treats them differently from infancy through adulthood.
Sexual identity
An inner sense of oneself as a sexual being.
Bisexual
Having erotic, romantic, affectional attraction toward both genders.
Lesbian
Refers to a female homosexual.
Heterosexuality
Having erotic, affectional attraction toward the opposite gender.
Chromosomes
The factor that determines one's sex.
Gender (Social Construct)
A social construct that determines one’s roles, expected values, behavior and interaction in relationships involving men and women.
Sex stereotypes
Assumptions about a specific group belonging to a gender.
Sexual stereotypes
Assumptions regarding a persons sexuality that reinforce dominant views.
Sex role stereotypes
Encompasses the roles that men and women are assigned based on their sex and what behaviors they must possess to fulfill these roles.
Compound stereotypes
A generalized view of traits that should be possessed by men and women, specifically physical and emotional roles.

Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression.
Sexual orientation
A term used to refer to a person's emotional, romantic, and sexual attraction to individuals of a particular gender.
Gender Identity
Refers to one’s personal experience or gender relations.
Gender expressions
Determines how one expresses his sexuality through the actions or manner of presenting oneself.
Homosexuality
Having erotic, affectional attraction toward the same gender.
Cisgender
A term for people whose gender identity matches the sex that they were assigned at birth.
Sexism
Prejudice or discrimination based on a person's sex or gender.
Gender equality
The recognition of the state that all human beings are free to enjoy equal conditions.

A union, formal or informal, entered into by a child or youth under the age of eighteen.

The system of symbols that allows people to give meaning to experience.
