Corpus albicans

A white scar formed when the corpus luteum degenerates because fertilization does not take place.

Graafian follicle

A mature ovarian follicle.

Secondary oocyte

An eccentric cell within the Graafian follicle surrounded by the zona pellucida.

Zona pellucida

A non-cellular layer surrounding the secondary oocyte, secreted by the vitelline membrane of the oocyte.

Theca externa

The outermost protective and fibrous covering of the Graafian follicle.

Theca interna

The cellular layer inner to the theca externa that produces the hormone estrogen.

Membrana granulosa

A layer of follicular cells formed inner to the theca interna.

Discus proligerus

Cells differentiated from the membrana granulosa.

Corona radiata

Specific cells surrounding the oocyte that differentiate from the membrana granulosa.

Cumulus oophorus

The term used for the oocyte and its surrounding granulosa cells.

Antrum

A fluid-filled cavity located between the oocyte and the membrana granulosa.

Liquor folliculi

The fluid that fills the cavity known as the antrum.

Infundibulum

A part of the duct system surrounded by fimbriae.

Fimbriae

Finger-like structures surrounding the infundibulum that assist in the movement of the ovulated egg.

Uterus

A hollow organ, also known as the womb, located near the bladder and having a thickness or dimension of $2.5\,cm$.
