The Xinhai Revolution got rid of China’s emperors to begin shaping and uniting China through democracy

Nationalism was needed to take back the country and unify them

Democracy was needed to build governments

Livelihood was needed to build economic stability

China also needed 

  • Strong military to stand against invaders

  • To learn how to be governed not ruled

In the 1920’s the Chinese economy was not very industrial. For Marxist theory to inform change in China, how might the theory need to be modified?

It needs to be modified by developing more factories to help produce more exports and become industrialised. If this does not happen, they have to adjust communism to for an agricultural society.

Why is Edgar Snow a reliable source?

Snow was living in communist China and had direct contact with Mao who is the leader of hte CCP. This proves reliable as it’s a direct source but may have some sympathetic bias.

What is the KMT?

Kuomintang. Run by Chiang, the KMT includes nationalism, democracy and livelihood with change through 3 stages: 1. Military government 2. Political tutelage 3. Constitutional government

Chinese Communist Party. Run by Mao. It was a party established after the death of Yuan and made up of political and military factors.
