What are Mountains?
A Mountain is a large landform that rises steeply above its surroundings, reaching a peak or ridge, typically above at least 900 meters.
How are Different Types of Mountains Formed?
There are three different types of mountains based on how they are formed: Fold Mountains, Block Mountains, and Volcanic Mountains.
What are Fold Mountains?
Fold mountains are formed when the Earth's crust plates collide, causing layers of sedimentary rocks to bend or buckle. Examples include the Himalayan Mountains and the Alps.
What are Block Mountains?
Block mountains are formed by faulting, where crustal rocks shift vertically due to tensional or compressional forces. A flat-topped block mountain is called a horst.
