AT regina gravi iamdudum saucia cura

But the queen, long since wounded by serious care

vulnus alit venis et caeco carpitur igni

nourishes the injury with her veins and is plucked apart by the unseen fire.

multa viri virtus animo multusque recursat gentis honos:

his great courage and his family’s great honour keep reccuring in her mind:

haerent infixi pectore vultus / verbaque

there stay implanted into her heart his face and words,

nec placidam membris dat cura quietem.

and the care that gives no calming rest to her limbs.

Postera Phoebea lustrabat lampade terras, umentemque Aurora polo dimoverat umbram,
