Flowers, Leaves, Stem, and Roots
Parts of a plant:
Flowers
Important for plant reproduction, often attracting pollinators like insects or relying on wind to disperse pollen.
Leaves
Important for photosynthesis.
Stem
• It held up the leaves and flowers.
• It transports substances and stores food.
Wood, Herbaceous, Vine Plants
Three (3) types of plants
Roots
• It absorbs water and minerals.
• It anchors the plants to the soil and stores food.
Root System
• Part of a plant that is ordinarily underground.
• It anchors the plants.
• Absorbs nutrients and stores food.
Taproot
This is a type of root system that has one main root that has many branches coming from it.
Fibrous Root
This is a type of root system characterized by a network of thin, branching roots of similar size that grow from the base of the stem
Shoot System
• Part of a plant that is found above the ground.
• Holds the leaves toward the sun.
Blade
• The flat portion of a leaf.
• Veins are the pipelines that carry food and water throughout the blade.
Midrib
large vein that runs down the center of the blade.
Petiole
It attaches the blade to the stem and contains vascular tissues.
Sessile
leaves that lack petiole.
Stipule
Small leaf-like that helped to cover the leaf when it is developing.
Buds
Contain developing leaf or stem structures.
Simple leaf
A type of leaf that has a single, undivided blade that attaches to a stem by a petiole
Compound leaf
A leaf of a plant consisting of several or many distinct parts (leaflets) joined to a single stem.
