Point of View

The way the author chooses to tell the story, incorporating the voice and scope of the narrator.

Narrator

The person telling the story who affects how much readers know about the characters and events.

First-Person Point of View

A story perspective where the narrator is a character participating in the story and uses pronouns such as I, we, mine, and my.

Reliable Narrator

A narrator that the reader judges to be trustworthy regarding the information and events being told.

Second-Person Point of View

The least common point of view, told from the viewpoint of the reader using pronouns like you and your, where the narrator addresses the reader directly.

Third-Person Point of View

A point of view where the narrator is not involved in the story and uses keywords like he, she, it, they, or names to provide an overview of the story.

Third-Person Objective

A type of third-person point of view where the narrator knows or reveals nothing about the characters' internal thoughts, feelings, and motivations, sticking strictly to external facts.

Third-Person Limited

A type of third-person point of view where the narrator describes the internal thoughts, feelings, and motivations of only one character, usually the main character.

Third-Person Omniscient

A type of third-person point of view where the narrator knows and reveals the internal thoughts, feelings, and motivations of all the characters.
