How are the ailerons and elevator systems operated?

Both electric and manual trim

Cables with mechanical trim system
What is the composition of the ailerons?
- Top and bottom CFRP shells
- Rigid foam core
- GFRP inner skin
How are the ailerons operated and secured?
- Controls rods
- 4 hinges secured by a roll pin
- Lock nut secures push rod
How are the ailerons adapted to aid flying?
Differential ailerons (protects against adverse yaw) and aerodynamic balance on the outboard bottom of aileron
How are the flaps constructed?
- Top and bottom CFRP shells
- Rigid foam core
- GFRP inner skin
- 2 sections
What are the two sections of the flaps?
Outer section, with 6 hinges, connects to wing
Inner section, 4 hinges, connects to centre wing
What is the fail-safe construction of the flaps and why?
Inboard flap has tongue that fits into a groove on the outboard flap and prevents flap following if there is separation of one of the control rods (prevents asymmetric flap deployment)
What are the degrees of flap available?
0° = Up
20° = App
42° = LDG
What is the variable elevator stop?
Electrically operated actuator which moves a moveable stop and limits travel to 13° up when power setting of both engines exceeds 25% (approx 14" MAP)
What happens when one of the throttles is reduced below 25%?
Stick can travel up to 15.5° pitch up, amber STICK LIMIT indication appears telling the pilot there is a malfunction
Can you reach more than 13° pitch up with one throttle at idle (engine failure)?
Yes, only one throttle must be below the approach power setting to reach more than 13° pitch up
Why is there a variable elevator stop?
Prevents stalling after take off, on approach or after a go around
What are the two actuating levers used for elevator trim?
Left, connects to long flexible cable, adjusted by the pilot
Right, friction damper, prevents fluttering if there is mechanical failure of the trim cable
What is the composition of the rudder?
- Two GFRP shells (left and right)
- Rigid foam core
- Two bolts attached to flat face at the bottom (attaches rudder to aircraft)
- Mass balance weight at leading edge near the top (can't adjust the balance weight
How is the rudder trim operated?
- Black trim wheel in centre console
- Flexible cable (connects wheel to actuator)
- Two operating rods (connects actuator to trim tab control horn)
