Function

A relation in which for each input value there is one and only one output value.

Relative Maximum

A “peak” in the function’s behavior, where the function changes from increasing to decreasing.

Relative Minimum

A point on the graph of the function where the function’s value is less than or equal to the function’s value at all other nearby points.

Domain

The set of all input values for a relation or function.

Range

The set of all output values for a relation or function.

Independent Variable

The variables that represents the value that does not depend on the value of another quantity - it can stand alone.

Dependent Variable

The variable that represents the quantity that depends on its value from one or more others.

Input

A replacement value for a variable in a function or relation. The first number in a ordered pair.

Output

Used to describe the result of applying a function or relationship rule to an indicated value.
