Polygenic traits
Traits controlled by two or more genes
Sex linked traits
Traits controlled by genes located on sex chromosomes
codominance
A condition in which both alleles for a gene or fully expressed
Incomplete dominance
A pattern of inheritance in which two alleles, inherited from the parents, are neither dominant nor recessive. The resulting offspring have a phenotype that is a blending of the parental traits
Recessive trait
A trait that is a parent, only when two recessive alleles for the same characteristics are inherited
Dominant trait
The trait that covers up the other form of the trait
Phenotype
An organism’s physical appearance or visible traits
Genotype
An organism’s genetic makeup or allele combinations
Heterozygous
An organism that has two different alleles for a Trait
Homozygous
An organism that has two identical alleles for a gene
Allele
Different forms of a gene
gene
A segment of DNA on a chromosome that codes for a specific trait
Genetics
The specific study of heredity
Hybrid
Offspring of Crosses between parents with different traits
True breeding
Term used to describe organisms that produce offspring identical to themselves if allowed to self pollinate
Probability
A number that describes how likely it is, that an event will occur
Multiple alleles
Three or more forms of a gene that code for a single trait
