Wafting

The proper technique demonstrated by the instructor for safely smelling chemical vapors.

Acid Dilution Procedure

The method of always adding acid to water, swirling or stirring the solution, and being careful of the heat produced.

Rubber Bulb or Pipet Pump

Tools required to fill a pipet to prevent the unsafe practice of using mouth suction.

Glass Disposal Container

The designated waste container where broken or waste glassware is placed using a brush and dustpan.

Insulating Pad

A pad placed under hot apparatus to avoid placing heated equipment directly on the laboratory desk.

Distilled Water

The only substance permitted to fill wash bottles, which are used for rinsing glassware and equipment or adding water to containers.

Back of Your Hand

The surface brought close to an object prior to grasping it to check if it is hot, since hot and cold glass have the same visual appearance.
