reaction that takes in energy from the environment(usually in the form of heat), resulting in the loss of energy(fall in temp) of the surrounding
exothermic
a reaction that releases energy into the environment, usually in the form of heat, causing the rise in energy around the reaction(increase in temp)

the overall amount of energy being taken in during a reaction. exothermic is negative energy because there is now less energy in the reaction. endothermic is positive enthalpy

minimum amount of energy colliding particles must have for bonds to break and the particles to react
enthalpy change in terms of bonds
enthalpy change is the energy required to break the bonds minus energy released by forming the bonds
how do you calculate energy based on energy required to break the bonds
you can calculate energy with values that give the amount of energy needed to break a mol of those bonds, then you calculate the enthalpy change, with negative meaning exothermic
