Aerobic Cultures
Cultures that require oxygen for growth.
Anaerobic Cultures
Cultures that do not require oxygen for growth and may be harmed by it.
Thioglycollate Broth
A medium used to culture both aerobic and anaerobic organisms.
Obligate Aerobe
An organism that requires oxygen to live.
Obligate Anaerobe
An organism that cannot survive in the presence of oxygen.
Microaerophile
An organism that requires low levels of oxygen but cannot survive in high concentrations.
Facultative Anaerobe
An organism that can grow with or without oxygen.
Aerotolerant Anaerobe
An organism that does not use oxygen but can tolerate its presence.
Capnophiles
Organisms that require an increased concentration of carbon dioxide.
Candle Jar
A method used to create a low-oxygen environment for cultures.
Gas Pak
A system used to create anaerobic environments in laboratory settings.
Snyder Test
A test to determine susceptibility to dental cavities based on pH change.
Streptococcus mutans
A bacterium that contributes to tooth decay.
Biofilm
A complex aggregation of microorganisms growing on a solid substrate.
Bromcresol Green
A pH indicator used in the Snyder test.
