Ratio
A comparison of two quantities with the same kind of unit.
Rate
A ratio that compares two quantities with different kinds of units.
Unit Rate
A rate in which the second quantity or denominator is equal to 1 unit.
Fraction form
A way to write a ratio, example: 53.
Ratio form
A way to write a ratio using a colon, example: 3:5, read as "3 to 5".
Ratio Example
3 boys for every 5 girls, which may be written as 53 or 3:5.
Speed
Tells how far a person, vehicle, or moving object travels in a given amount of time.
Speed Example
Maria's car travels at 2km/h or 2kph.
Denominator of a Unit Rate
In a unit rate, the denominator is always 1, although the value of the rate is not always a whole number.
