Tensile Strength
The ability of a material to withstand tensile or pulling forces without failure.
Compressive Strength
The ability of a material to withstand compressive or crushing forces without failure.
Shear Strength
The ability of a material to withstand shear or sliding forces without failure.
Hardness
The ability of a material to withstand scratching, abrasion or indentation without failure.
Toughness
The ability of a material to withstand impact forces or to absorb energy without failure.
Ductility
The ability of a material to be formed into wire by tensile forces without failure.
Malleability
The ability of a material to be formed into shapes by compressive forces without failure.
Elasticity
The ability of a material to return to its original shape after an applied load has been removed.
Brittleness
The ability of a material to permit no permanent deformation before failure.
