Purposive Communication
The use of communication strategies to achieve a specific purpose with a particular audience and context.
Sender
The person who initiates the message.
Message
The information or idea being communicated.
Encoding
Turning an idea into words or symbols.
Channel
The medium used to communicate.
Receiver
The person who receives the message.
Decoding
Interpreting the message.
Feedback
The response to the message.
Context
The situation where communication occurs or the situation surrounding communication.
Noise
Anything that interferes with communication.
Informative Purpose
Provides facts, knowledge, or explanations.
Persuasive Purpose
Attempts to influence beliefs, attitudes, or actions.
Entertaining Purpose
Provides enjoyment or amusement.
Expressive Purpose
Communicates feelings, opinions, or personal experiences.
Instructional Purpose
Provides directions or teaches someone how to do something.
Verbal Communication
Uses spoken or written words.
Nonverbal Communication
Communicates meaning without relying primarily on words, such as facial expressions, gestures, eye contact, and posture.
