  • use w/ MAO inhibitors (hypertensive crisis)

  • use w beta blockers like metoprolol (blocks effects of albuterol → more bronchospasms)

  • hypersensitivty to adrenergic amines

  • severe milk protein allergies (for some formulations)

Nursing consideration

  • monitor vitals (HR, BP, RR)

  • monitor EKG (due to cardaic arrhythmia)

  • monitor for sx of paradoxical bronchospasm (wheezing!!!)

  • see if med is working (pulmonary function test before and after)

Patient education

  • shake before use

  • don’t exceed 3 doses of 2-4 puffs every 20 minutes

  • use before LABA

  • avoid taking at night (cuz of restlessness)
