What are the differences between prokaryotes and eukaryotes?
Prokaryotes don’t have a nucleus, have no organelles, and have fimbria and a flagellum that allows them to move around more easily.
Describes the cell capsule and its function
Made up of polysaccharides, it is the outermost wall on the outside and is sticky, allowing the cell to adhere to surfaces.
Cell wall
Second layer of the cell from the outside, and helps the cell maintain its shape. (maintain structural integrity)
Cell membrane
Innermost wall of the cell. Made of psopholipids, it controls the transport of molecules in/out of the cell. Made of lipids and proteins.
Cytosol
Semiliquid fluid that is inside the cell
Ribosomes
For protein synthesis, made of RNA and proteins
Chromosome
Stores genetic material, single circular chromosome (DNA)
Nucleoid
Where the chromosome is located in the cell. Contains a single circular chromosome.
Fimbriae
Little hair like things on the outside of the cell that allow it to stick to surfaces. (made of proteins)
Flagella
Tail that lets cell move around. (made of proteins)
