Before World War II, America saw the Soviet Union (also known as Russia or the USSR) as an evil, oppressive nation. The Soviet Union saw USA in a similar way

Their "friendship" during WW2 was because they both had the same enemy: Nazi Germany.

Capitalism

• The USA stood for capitalism: Capitalism is an economic system where people are free to sell their labour and goods at the highest price they can get for it.

Communism

The Soviet Union stood for communism:

• Communism is an organizational system according to which the  government controls all economic and social activities and share all citizens in the country's wealth. Everyone must be equal.
