C: This painting does a good job of giving the viewers a glimpse into French society. The artist builds this detailed painting of people in nature through the use of layered colored dots. He used a lot of color theory in an attempt to create the exact color that he wanted.
A Starry Night
D: 1889 P/S: Post-Impressionism A: Van Gogh M/T: Oil on Canvas (Impasto), F: Depicts the view outside of a window from an insane asylum he admitted himself into. C: His use of Impasto, though expensive, allowed him to achieve vibrancy and texture in his paintings and set him apart from many artists from this time. This painting was created following his infamous breakdown leading to his self-mutation.

D: 1897, P/S: Post-Impressionism A: Gauguin, M/T: Oil on Canvas, F: Depicts the artist’s internal struggle with the cycle of life. C: Gauguin’s turbulent personal life produced a style that is known today as primitism. He spent his life searching for untouched Earth to escape the responsibilities he felt plagued with. His art reflects his personal struggles with time, every day life and humanity as it grasps its own existence. He only painted the female form, perhaps reflecting on his own infidelity.
Mont Sainte-Victoire
D: 1902 P/S: Post-Impressionism A: Cezanne, M/T: Oil on canvas, F: Depcits the mountain of Sainte-Victoire, C: This painting was a reflection of the nature of the French countryside. Cezanne wanted to capture the essence of nature and by doing so, the people that inhabited it.
