Robert Baden-Powell
A famous British soldier who founded the Scouting movement after his experiences in the Boer War and published 'Scouting For Boys'.
Patrol
A group of six to eight friends within a Company who plan activities together and are led by a Patrol Leader.
Company
A unit consisting of a number of Patrols that regularly meet together.
Court-Of-Honour (COH)
The governing body of a Company, made up of Patrol Leaders and Guiders, which works out the programme of activities and handles administrative matters.
Roll Call
A formal drill that begins each meeting, involving taking attendance, collecting subscriptions, and performing inspections.
Taps
A song sung at the end of a meeting, originally derived from the American army call to retire, signaling the end of the day.
The Guide Promise
A statement of commitment where a Guide pledges to do her best to do her duty to God, serve her country, help others, and keep the Guide Law.
The Guide Motto
The phrase 'Be Prepared', meaning to be ready for any duty or accident by having practiced beforehand.
The Guide Sign
A greeting or sign made by raising the right hand to shoulder level with three fingers pointing up to represent the Three-Fold Promise.
The Guide Salute
A sign of respect given by enrolled members in full uniform during ceremonies such as breaking the colours or the National Anthem.
The Guide Handshake
A greeting exchanged with the left hand, symbolizing trust and friendship as it is closer to the heart.
Law 1
A guide is loyal and can be trusted.
Law 2
A guide is useful and helps others.
Law 3
A guide is polite, considerate and respects her elders.
Law 4
A guide is friendly and a sister to all Guides.
Law 5
A guide is kind to all living things.
Law 6
A guide is obedient.
Law 7
A guide has courage and is cheerful in all difficulties.
Law 8
A guide takes care of her possessions, and those of other people
Law 9
A guide is thrifty and diligent.
Law 10
A is self-disciplined in what she thinks, says and does.
The Good Turn
A daily golden rule for Guides to help others without expecting reward or thanks.
Agnes Baden-Powell
The sister of Robert Baden-Powell who served as the first President of the Girl Guides Association formed in 1910.
Olave Baden-Powell
The wife of Robert Baden-Powell who was elected Chief Commissioner in 1916 and became Chief Guide in 1918.
SGGA
The Singapore Girl Guides Association.
Guide Trefoil
The enrollment badge whose three leaves represent the Three-Fold Promise, featuring 'P.P.' for 'Pandu Puteri'.
World Badge
A badge featuring a golden Trefoil on a blue background representing the sun shining over the children of the world.
World Flag
The flag of WAGGGS featuring a white corner for peace and three golden squares symbolizing the Three-Fold Promise.
Thinking Day
Observed on February 22, the shared birthday of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell, as a day to think of Guide members worldwide.
Thinking Day Fund
A fund established in 1933 used for the promotion and development of Guiding around the world through voluntary contributions.
Horseshoe Formation
A specific curved arrangement of Guides used for formal ceremonies like Enrolment or Colours.
