Supervised Administration
A locally commissioned Enhanced pharmacy service where the consumption of prescribed medicine, typically methadone or buprenorphine, is observed by a trained pharmacist.
FP10MDA
The specific prescription form used for opioid substitutes in England, limited to a maximum of 14 days of treatment with specific instalment instructions.
Keyworker/Recovery Worker
An essential member of the care team who supports the patient's social and psychological needs and serves as the main point of contact for the pharmacist.
Diversion
The movement of prescribed medicines into the illicit drugs market, a risk that supervised administration helps to reduce.
Home Office Approved (HOA) Wording
Standardized instructions on prescriptions used to manage missed doses, pharmacy closures, and supervision requirements on collection days.
Suboxone
A medication combining Buprenorphine and Naloxone that is authorized to be prescribed on an FP10MDA form.
Three-day rule
The requirement to consult the prescriber if a patient has missed 3 or more consecutive days of their prescribed treatment.
Buprenorphine sublingual tablet
A medication placed under the tongue that must be observed until fully dissolved, a process that can take 3−7 minutes.
Buprenorphine lyophilizates
A form of buprenorphine that is placed on the tongue (not under) and dissolves within 1−2 minutes.
Needle and Syringe Programme (NSP)
A health protection scheme designed to reduce the rate of blood-borne infections and drug-related deaths by providing free injecting equipment.
Unique client ID number
A registration code for the Needle and Syringe Programme generated using the patient's initials and date of birth.
Harm reduction advice
Associated healthcare and safety guidance that should be offered by the pharmacy team at every opportunity during the provision of equipment.
Schedule 2 CD
A category of Controlled Drugs authorized for instalment prescribing on an FP10MDA form in England.
Methadone administration
The process where the supervisor must be satisfied the dose has been swallowed and offers the patient a drink of water once complete.
