What is Enamel?
Its the hardest substance in the human body, it covers visible portion of the tooth
What is Dentin?
It makes up the bulk of the tooth, covers largest area of the tooth and is the second hardest tissue in the human body
What is Cementum?
It covers the root of the tooth from the crown all the to the tip of the root
Where is the Pulp of a tooth found?
Found in the hollow center of the tooth
Name the 4 things contained within the Pulp of the tooth
Blood vessels, nerves, lymphatics and variety of primitive connective tissues
What is the Pulp Cavity?
Its a chamber inside the tooth that is surrounded completely by dentin
Difference between Pulp Chamber vs Root Canal
Pulp chamber is in the crown, it wider and in the center
Root canal is a narrower canal that goes down the root of the tooth
Describe the Crown of a tooth
Its the half top of the tooth covered by enamel
Describe the Root of a tooth
Its the half bottom of the tooth covered by cementum
Describe the Root Apex of a tooth
The tip of the root
Describe the Apical Foramen of a tooth
A hole at the root of the tooth where our pulp exist
Describe the Cementoenamel (CEJ) of a tooth
Its where enamel and cementum join
Describe the Dentinoenamel (DEJ) of a tooth
Its where dentin and enamel join
Describe the Cementodentinal (CDJ) of a tooth
Its where cementum and dentin join
What is Periodontium
The 4 supporting structures of teeth
Define Gingiva
The soft tissue in the mouth (gums)
Define Alveolar Bone
The bone that make up the surrounding area of the tooth (jawbone)
Define Periodontal Membrane
A soft tissue/ligament that connects the tooth and the alveolar bone
Define Cementum
It connects the periodontal membrane to the hard structures on the tooth, and the periodontal membrane is connected to the hard bone
What is the Anatomic Crown?
It is the part of the crown covered by enamel
What is the Clinal Crown?
Is it the part of the crown which is above the gingiva
Define Maxillary Teeth
Teeth that are in the upper jaw
Define Mandibular Teeth
Teeth that are in the bottom jaw
List the 8 tooth types
Central Incisor, Lateral Incisor, Canine/Cuspid, 1st premolar/bicuspid, 2nd premolar/bicuspid, 1st molar, 2nd molar, 3rd molar
Define Quadrant
Maxillary Right, Maxillary Left, Mandibular Right, Mandibular Left
What teeth are Anterior?
The six front teeth
What teeth are Posterior?
The premolar and molar teeth
What is DAQT?
Dentition, Arch, Quadrant, Tooth type, its used for naming each tooth
Define the Mesial Surface
The surface closest to the midline
Define the Distal Surface
The surface away the midline
Define the Facial Surface
The face side of the teeth
Define the Labial Surface
The anterior teeth (lip)
Define the Buccal Surface
The posterior teeth (check)
Define the Lingual Surface
The tongue surface side
Define the Occlusal Surface
The biting surface on posterior teeth
Define the Incisal Surface
The biting surface on anterior teeth
Define the Line Angles
An angle formed by two surfaces Ex: mesiolingual
Define the Point Angles
Angle formed by three surfaces Ex: mesiolabiolincisal
What is another name for the cervical line?
CEJ Cementoenamel junction
