The person doesn’t choose to be treated in a certain way vs the person chooses that form of treatment

They were chained and treated really poorly
Current problems in mental health
Underfunded, no support to the people released under de institutionalization , leading to housing insecurity
Psychodynamic therapy
Used free association and dram analysis to help uncover long buried feelings. Believed that problems are the result of repressed impulses and trauma experienced in childhood
Play therapy
Used toys to help kids play out their hopes fantasies and traumas. This is to help them prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth.
Behavioral therapy
used principles of learning to help clients change unwanted behaviors. Dysfunctional behaviors can be changed by teaching clients new behaviors.
Exposure therapy
treats client fears by exposing them to things they are scared of. sometimes they use virtual reality and systematic desensitization
Cognitive behavioral therapy
designed to change the way people think. they try to get rid of negative thoughts and make patients tthink more positively
Humanistic therapy
helps to increase self awareness through focus on conscious thoughts
Individual therapy
client and therapist meet one on one
Group therapy
therapist meets with several clients with similar problems and they all support each other
