Citizens were equal, but women, children, and slaves were not.

An individual who neglected service to the community.

To experience the spiritual and physical oneness of society.
How is Dionysus described in the lecture notes?
The Twice-Born God of wine, fertility, and divine inspiration, associated with fertility to humans and lands, the life cycle, seasons, and irrational forces driven by wine.
What did the worship of Dionysus involve?
Music, wearing horns and snakes, and the sacrifice of bulls and goats.
When and where did Western drama originate?
In the 5th century BC in Athens, Greece.
When was the festival of City Dionysia held?
In the month of Elaphebolion (March-April).
What role did the Archon play in the dramatic performance contests?

What was the role and responsibility of the Choregos?
Functioning as the producer out of honor and civic duty, the Choregos hired the chorus, financed 1-3 principle dramatists, and shared the prize if won.

The playwright trained the actors, while the lead actor was assigned by the state.
