Skimming

Relates to the time period, behaviors/attitudes, and events at the time which affect the text
→ Social, economic, political, and religious events that influenced the writing of a text
Ex.
Shakespeare’s work → for example, you can notice which monarch was reigning at the time of each individual work
Sociocultural
Helps you to understand the social, economic, political, and cultural forces that influences the text you’re reading
Ex.

Linguistic
Analyzing the words, sentences, patterns, imagery of the text. Disregards contexts like biography and sociocultural. → Basically providing the listener context
Ex.
The girl in the red jacket is swinging → allows the listener to identify the subject or event being labeled
Psychological
Explores the psychological thought process and context of character and author
Ex.
Freud’s reading of Hamlet, mein kampf , and Stephen King
Plagiarism
Act of stealing other’s works and ideas while claiming it as one’s own
