Water Cycle
The cycle of which water goes through to recycle itself
Condensation
Evaporation
liquid → gas
Sublimation
solid → gas
Transpiration
when plants absorb water from the soil and then puts it through their leaves and out, turns water vapor into the atmosphere.
Precipitation
rain, slow, fleet, hail
Deposition
gas → solid
Groundwater
Water stored in the ground naturally or for man made purposes
Infiltration
When water seeps through the ground
Aquifer
Underground storage of water for welling etc.
Run Off
when water flows onto a surface, going into rivers + lakes eventually going into the ocean
Polarity
a difference in electrical charges in the same molecule
Hydrogen Bond
bonds formed between molecules
Water is electronegative
(draws electrons closer to itself) and leads to the polarity of a water molecule
Cohesion
Attraction between molecules of the same substance (also stick to other water molecules, forming weak hydrogen bonds)
Adhesion
Attraction between molecules of different substances (form hydrogen bonds with other surfaces)
Universal Solvent
dissolving substances
High Specific Heat
regulate temperature (water takes more energy to increase the temperature of water compared to other substances)
Low Density in Solid State
ice is less dense than a liquid water causing it to float. (form of insulation)
