Prerequisite versus preparation
Prerequisites are courses that must be completed before a student is allowed to enroll into the next course. Preparation courses are courses that will help in building the foundation of knowledge needed to continue in the major or minor.

Residency Requirement
35 of the last 45 units completed by each candidate for the Bachelor’s degree must be earned in residence in the College of Letters and Science on this campus.
Major Residency Requirement
A minimum of 24 upper division units must be completed in the major while in residence at UCLA. Note, some departments ask for more than 24 upper division units in residence. (Ex. Sociology requires 28 upper division units)
