Conservation of Mass
Nothing is created nor destroyed - ex. Reactants = 60g, Products = 60g
Relative Atomic Mass (Ar)
The mass of an element - ex. Ar (C) = 12.011
Relative Formula Mass (Mr)
The mass of a compound using Ar values - ex. Mr(H2O) = Ar(H2) + Ar(O) = 18.015
Molar Mass
Relative Atomic Mass - the mass of the element/compound
Mole
The SI unit of substance - 6.02 × 1023 particles in each mole (Avagrado’s Constant)
Empirical Formula
The lowest ratio of elements in a compound. Can be the same as the molecular formula
Molecular Formula
Formula of the chemical compound - ex. H2O or FeO2
Limiting Reagent
The reactant that runs out first - limits the amount of product that can be produced.
Excess Reagent
The reactant that does not run out first. Not used up when the reaction is finished.
