Privatization
the transfer of ownership of a business, public service, or public property from the government to private individuals or organizations; in the context of the executive branch, it often involves the government contracting private firms to provide services traditionally provided by the government.
Deregulation
the reduction or elimination of government rules and regulations that govern how businesses can operate; in the context of the executive branch, it often involves the president directing agencies to reduce compliance costs and simplify oversight in order to stimulate economic activity.
government corporations
Government agencies that don’t belong to any one department of bureaucracy because they are businesses made by Congress; example USPS
Independent agencies
Smaller and less complex agencies than cabinet departments. Not free from presidential control, but not part of a department of bureaucracy; example NASA
Regulatory Agencies
Agencies that make rules for large businesses that effect the interest of the overall population. They are not part of a department, receive no presidential control, and the 5-11 members that make up each agency are appointed by the president; example Securities and Exchange Commission
National Security Council
Agency within executive office of President that advises President in military affairs and foreign policies
Office of Management and Budget
Largest agency within executive office of President that prepares the national budget that the president presents to congress each year
National Council of Economic Advisers
Agency within executive office of President that helps the President with economic planning
