French and Indian War
A conflict between Great Britain and France (allied with Natives) over control of the Ohio River Valley, which replaced the French alliance with Natives and left Britain with debt and control over the continent.
Albany Plan of Union
A proposal by Benjamin Franklin to unite the 13 colonies under a single united government for war and defense.
Treaty of Paris
An agreement ending the French and Indian War that resulted in the end of French territories in North America and transferred them to Britain, allowing Britain to expand its empire and imperial control.
Pontiac Rebellion
An uprising by Natives against the British in the Great Lakes region following the French and Indian War, which led to the Proclamation of 1763 and increased tensions between colonists and the British.
Proclamation of 1763
A measure that forbade colonists from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains in order to prevent conflicts with Natives, which infuriated colonists who felt it violated their legal rights.
